Porto tot el matí pendent de l'atac de israelià contra un comboi humanitari que anava a Gaza: Flota de la Llibertat. Estava seguint el cas des que van sortir la setmana passada per què el mateix Manuel Tapia, un dels cooperants que hi anava, ens va advertir del fet. Des del Parlament Europeu hem reaccionat, tant com a Grup Verds/ALE com institucionalment (a través del President Buzek), així com també ho hem fet en tant que ICV.

En concret, a més de lamentar els fets, hem demanat a l'Alta Representant, Catherine Ashton, que la UE reaccioni de manera ràpida i contundent. En la carta que li hem enviat instem la UE a:

1. Urge the quick establishment of an international enquiry with the utmost transparency to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this attack and to guarantee full accountability

2. Give full support and assistance to all those present on the boats, including human rights and peace activists.  This includes ensuring that all these people are treated according to international human rights standards.  

3. Take the necessary steps to completely and unconditionally lift the current blockade against the Gaza population which has not only resulted in severe and dramatic civilian suffering but has also strengthened the most radical and extremist groups.

4. Call on all parties to refrain from any acts which may escalate tensions

5. Make convincing efforts towards establishing a two-state solution

Per altra banda, trobo més urgent que mai suspendre els acords comercials UE-Israel, cosa que també he demanat tant al Consell com a la Comissio, a més de reclamar un debat en el ple de juny, amb la presència de la mateixa Ashton.

Amb això volem enviar un missatge polític, que sigui fort i europeu, no només al govern israelià sinó que mostri també un gran i sòlid suport a la població palestina de Gaza.
